WHEN ON ASSIGNMENT:

  • Please call us when you arrive on the first day of each new assignment to provide us with your direct phone number or extension.
  • SELECT expects that all candidates they send out to fill a position will maintain a professional appearance. Clothing such as blue jeans is considered inappropriate dress.
  • Show initiative and willingness to the client. Ask questions if you are unclear on instructions or procedures.
  • If you make a personal phone call, please be sure it is made ONLY during scheduled lunch/coffee breaks, and with the client’s permission.
  • Information you are exposed to during your assignments must be considered CONFIDENTIAL. It is mandatory that you do not disclose any of this information. If you anticipate any conflict of interest in being assigned to various companies or departments, please discuss this with your consultant.
  • If you are given a key to a client’s office, please BE RESPONSIBLE. If you are unable to complete an assignment and have office keys, notify us immediately. DO NOT let them out of your possession.
  • Keep personal items at home or with you rather than leaving them at a client’s office.
  • Tell us immediately if your assignment duties change noticeably. Your pay rate is based on the job description we have been given.
  • While on assignment, you are an employee of SELECT RECRUITING. Discuss any problems or emergencies with your consultant rather than with the client. Please be discreet when making such a call.
  • Should you become ill during an assignment, please notify us as early as possible. Our offices open at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. If you are unable to speak to someone directly, you may also leave a voicemail explaining your situation. Prompt notification of such matters is greatly appreciated.
  • Should you learn of a permanent position with the client, please notify your consultant immediately. We will assist you in the application process.
  • If you are asked to work overtime, please welcome the opportunity. However, do let us know so that we can advise our client that overtime rates of time plus one half will apply as per Alberta Labour Standards.
  • Please call us on the last day of each assignment to confirm your availability for new assignments.

WHEN NOT ON ASSIGNMENT:

  • If you are available for assignments, please be sure to check your messages often, and/or provide us with an alternate number where you can be reached.
  • Keep in touch. It is impossible for an agency to contact every applicant. We invite you to get to know us by calling in on a regular basis, or by attending some of our free on-site career and employment services.
  • If you are unavailable for work, please notify us and let us know when you will be available again.
  • Keep us up to date of your proactive job search, and of any new skills you have acquired on the job, or in a course.
  • Inquire about our in-house software upgrading programs.

PAYCHEQUE INFORMATION:

  • You are paid each Friday following the week you work.
  • To ensure that you are paid promptly:
    • Record your hours accurately
    • Have the timesheet SIGNED by your employer as well as by yourself
    • Hand timesheet in to Select no later than 4:30 pm on the Monday following your assignment.
    • Make sure Select has your SIN on file
  • Cheques will be ready for pickup at the Select office by 8:00 am Friday morning. A blank timecard for the next week will be inserted in the envelope with your cheque.
  • Cheques must be picked up in person. If you would like to have someone else pick it up for you, arrangements must be made IN ADVANCE with Select. Cheques will not be released to any other party without prior approval.
  • Any cheque not picked up by 4:30pm on Friday will be mailed out. Please ensure that Select has your current address on file. It is your responsibility to notify Select of address changes in a timely manner.

Overtime Pay
SELECT follows the guidelines set out by Alberta Labour Standards. According to these guidelines, overtime is paid after an employee has worked in excess of 8 hours per day or 44 hours per week. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times your hourly wage. It is important that you always get approval from your on-site supervisor, as well as notifying your consultant at SELECT before working overtime.

Pay for Statutory Holidays
SELECT also follows Alberta Labour Standards when it comes to the calculation of pay for statutory holidays. The guidelines state that an employee qualifies for stat pay under the following conditions:

  • You have worked 240 hours (or 30 shifts) for SELECT in the last year
  • And worked your normally scheduled work day prior to & following the statutory holiday.

Select Recruiting Solutions is your Employer
Although you may be placed at several different businesses in the area, Select remains as your employer. Supervisors at each job site will provide you with job specific instructions regarding your tasks and duties. However, you remain an employee on Select’s payroll, and as such Select retains employment authority.
