What kinds of jobs are out there for candidates who register with SELECT?
We work with all kinds of companies filling all kinds of jobs. Some are PERMANENT and some are TEMPORARY – construction companies, processing plants, accounting firms, government agencies, to name a few.
Why go through an agency to find work?
It’s no secret that there is a hidden job market within every community. Agencies may be aware of job openings that have not been conventionally advertised by local employers.
When employers are unable to handle the recruitment process due to time constraints and cost management, they might call upon an agency to alleviate this stress by managing the entire recruitment process.
Once you have registered and have been selected for an interview, not only are we keeping an ear to the ground for that perfect match, but your resume and qualifications are electronically filed in a database so that when a new job becomes available, we are able to find your resume with a simple click!
How do I apply?
It’s easy! Simply email your resume to info@selectrecruiting.ca or apply on this website *No Paper Please*. If your experience and employment history are matched with that of an available position, one of our consultants will then invite you for an interview to discuss your employment objectives and how your experience might benefit an employer.
At that time, we may also assess your skills in areas such as: software proficiency, keyboarding speed, and general office skills. These skills evaluations help us to further determine your candidacy for current and/or future opportunities.
What is the fee for a candidate who applies at SELECT?
None at all! SELECT’s employment services are FREE to candidates if you are looking for permanent or temporary work.
What documents should I bring along for the interview?
If you have been emailed forms such as an application form and a personality profile questionnaire, please bring these in filled out and signed where necessary. Please also provide us with your references if you haven’t done so already.
Do I need to be professionally dressed when I come to SELECT?
Dress as you would if you were dropping your resume off to a prospective employer, as you may be meeting with a consultant that same day. Remember: first impressions are lasting impressions!
Will I hear from SELECT after sending my resume there?
As much as we would like to call everyone, it is difficult to be able to respond to all applicants. Therefore, only those short-listed for a position will be called.
What is the waiting period until I get a call?
During the first interview with one of our consultants you will discuss the job opportunities through SELECT. Once you are in our current and available database, your contact person at SELECT will continue to propose to you, new opportunities, which is why it is so very important to stay in touch with your consultant.
What does short-listing involve?
Short-listing may include an interview, skills testing, and reference checks. The time varies according to the demands of the position; however, the process may take up to 2 hours in some cases.
Does SELECT guarantee employment to applicants who are short-listed?
Unfortunately not. We encourage you to continue with your job search. We can partner with you, but we can’t do it for you.
What is screening?
Screening is a very important element of the recruitment process. Every business is unique in its requirement for staff. Office culture, working environment and required skills vary from business to business. Our role in seeking out exceptional candidates for local employers is to identify overall “fit” by educating ourselves on their business needs. The screening process is achieved through interviewing, assessing skill-set (eg. software skills, typing speed, etc) and of course, checking a candidate’s employment references.
What is temping?
From time to time, employers require short-term help. Often this is the result of a staff member taking holidays or perhaps an overload or backlog of work that has exceeded the capacity for the existing staff to handle. In this instance, the employer is wise to call upon an agency to “temporarily” fill these gaps with an additional person, without actually hiring that person onto the company payroll.
Temping is a valuable way to gain experience, and exposure to the local business community by way of introducing your talents to companies you might one day wish to work for.
What happens to my resume and personal information after I register with Select?
Your basic information will be entered into our password protected staffing software system. That way, if an assignment should come up, your consultant can access your file with a simple click. Hard copies of application forms are stored in a locked filing cabinet for a period of 6 months.
If you should find employment elsewhere, we ask that you let your consultant know so your file can be deactivated in the system. This way, we can keep track of which candidates in our pool are ready and willing to go out on assignment. It also avoids having the consultants at SELECT call you to offer assignments.
No personal information will be released without written consent.
After 6 months, your resume and application forms will be destroyed. If you choose to register again with SELECT at a later date, you will be required to fill out another application form and submit a new, updated resume.
